LAKE ELSINORE, CA. -  In his first game with the Modesto Nuts, Joseph Rosa drives in the game-winning runs to propel the Nuts to a 4-1 win over the Lake Elsinore Storm in eleven innings at The Diamond.
After the Nuts (44-53; 14-13) and Storm (48-47; 13-14) played ten scoreless innings, Joseph Rosa broke the deadlock against Franklin Van Gurp (L, 1-3). With the free runner at second, Johnny Adams laid down a bunt base hit to put two on for Rosa. The Nuts' newest infielder laced a two-run triple into right-center field to put the Nuts in front. It was the third hit for Rosa who also recorded a double.
Rosa came in to score on Jake Scheiner's RBI single. The Nuts plated their fourth run in the inning on a throwing error by the Storm third baseman.
Nick Duron (W, 1-1) struck out a pair in the tenth before heading out for the eleventh. Duron allowed a RBI double that scored the free runner but that was all. Duron struck out four in his two innings of work.
Austin Hutchison worked the hardest for the Nuts throwing four scoreless innings with one hit and a pair of strikeouts. Matt Walker was the opener and tossed a scoreless first despite giving up three hits. Ray Kerr worked two hitless innings out of the 'pen. Collin Kober heaved a pair of innings out of the bullpen and worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the eighth inning. He struck out four batters.
Reiss Knehr was the star out of the Storm's staff. The righty worked a career-high eight innings with ten strikeouts.
The Nuts will try for the series victory in game two of the three-game series on Thursday against the Storm. First pitch in Lake Elsinore is at 7:00 p.m. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 6:50 p.m. Listen live online on your phone, tablet or PC by clicking HERE.
