Lake Elsinore, CA. - A pair of tape-measure home runs and a dynamite start gave the Modesto Nuts a 2-1 win over the Lake Elsinore Storm at The Diamond.
Darren McCaughan retired the first eleven batters he faced before a two-out single in the fourth inning. In the first six innings, McCaughan allowed just two hits and no runs.
With the game scoreless in the seventh, Gareth Morgan drilled a solo home run over the 425 mark in center field to give the Nuts (14-16) a one-run lead over the Storm (11-19).
McCaughan came out to work the seventh inning and allowed a one-out single before a walk. After getting a line out to second, Eguy Rosario tied the game with a RBI single into center. McCaughan worked 6 2/3 innings and allowed one run with five strikeouts and one walk.
Jack Anderson (W, 1-1) checked in after that and stranded two inherited runners before working a perfect eighth.
Donnie Walton led the ninth inning off with a solo home run over the 36-foot high wall in right against Trevor McGill (L, 1-1).
Wyatt Mills (S, 3/4) worked around a two out single to give the Nuts the series victory and a chance to sweep the Storm on Sunday. It is the Nuts' third straight series victory and they are now 5-1 on this seven-game road trip.
