Modesto, CA. - A pair of two-out knocks were the difference in a tight 3-2 loss suffered by the Modesto Nuts at the hands of the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes on Saturday night at John Thurman Field.
With one-run lead in the seventh, Jeffeson Medina (L, 5-3) worked in his second frame of relief for the Nuts (44-63; 14-23). Medina allowed a leadoff double to Jared Walker to put the tying run in scoring position for the Quakes (63-44; 28-9).
Medina induced a pair of soft lineouts to keep the tying run at second. Omar Estevez tied the game with a soft groundball single into left. On the throw to the plate, Estevez moved into second representing the go-ahead run. Cody Thomas lined the game-winning RBI single into right to set up a chance for the Quakes to sweep the Nuts on Sunday.
