PENSACOLA, Fla. - Matt Krook opened, Kenny Rosenberg (9-1) followed, and Jhonleider Salinas slammed the door in the ninth en route to the Biscuits (59-35) 4-0 shutout over the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (49-45) on Sunday night at Blue Wahoos Stadium.
Krook, who was opening for a team-leading 10th time this season, was perfect in his only two innings, fanning four. The lefty has been perfect in four innings since coming off the Injured List on July 6, striking out eight of the 12 batters he has faced. The Biscuits are also 9-1 in games in which Krook has opened in 2019.
Krook then handed the reins to Rosenberg, who went six scoreless innings of relief, scattering just three hits, three walks, and two strikeouts. Rosenberg is now tied with Biloxi's Trey Supak for the league lead in wins with nine.
The Biscuits couldn't crack Pensacola starter Jorge Alcala through the first four innings, but in the fifth, Brett Sullivan unloaded to right with his sixth home run of the season. The solo shot was the first round-tripper of the series for either squad, and handed the Biscuits the only run they would need at 1-0.
In the sixth, Tristan Gray drew a bases-loaded walk against lefty reliever Andrew Vasquez before Lucius Fox grounded a two-out, two-run single up the middle to make it a 4-0 game. Salinas entered for Rosenberg in the ninth and got Joe Cronin to fly out to left for the final out of the ballgame.
15 of the Biscuits' 59 wins this season-over a fourth-have been shutouts, and Montgomery will aim to win the series on Monday night when Jason García (1-0) deals against Griffin Jax (3-2) at 6:35 PM CT.
The Biscuits will return to Riverwalk Stadium for the start of a four-game series against the Jackson Generals on July 18 for Tide Night featuring a T-Shirt Giveaway. The four-game homestand will also feature First Responders Night and MAX Fireworks on Friday, July 19; Man on the Moon Night featuring a Lunar Patch Giveaway and MAX Fireworks on Saturday, July 20; and Lil' Crumbs Dress Like a Player and Helmet Giveaway on Sunday, July 21.
