MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Another night, another Biscuits (42-25) victory. Less than 24 hours after celebrating their first First Half Championship in team history, the Biscuits took down the Chattanooga Lookouts (35-31) for a third-straight game, winning 2-1 on Friday night at Riverwalk Stadium.
Matt Krook opened for the eighth time, and looked sharp, tossing two scoreless innings and striking out three. Kevin Padlo blasted his seventh home run of the season in the bottom of the first off Chattanooga starter Packy Naughton (2-3), which put Montgomery up, 1-0. The home run, a laser to center field, had an exit velocity of 111 miles per hour.
Krook then handed the reins to Sam McWilliams (5-2), who brought his team-leading 22.1 consecutive-scoreless innings streak into the game, and extended that to 26.2 before some audacious baserunning by Alfredo Rodriguez ended it after a T.J. Friedl infield single in the seventh.
Rene Pinto clubbed his first Double-A home run in the sixth to give the Biscuits their second run, and thanks to McWilliams and Dalton Moats, who pitched the final two innings, that was all Montgomery would need. The Biscuits, who tied a season-high by committing four errors, still got a spectacular throw from the right fielder Miles Mastrobuoni, who nailed Tyler Stephenson at the plate on a single by Michael Beltre to end the sixth.
The Biscuits will try to make it five wins in a row if they can sweep Saturday's doubleheader starting at 4:05 PM when it will be Montgomery Rebels Throwback Night featuring a Jersey Auction. Sunday's series finale will feature a Father's Day Tie Giveaway at 5:05 PM.
