CHATTANOOGA, Ten. - After dropping the first game of their five-game series on Thursday night, the Biscuits (49-43) bounced back and defeated the Chattanooga Lookouts (42-49), 9-7, on Friday the 13th at AT&T Field.
Travis Ott opened for the Biscuits and lasted two innings, allowing an RBI-single to Brian Navarreto in the second to put the Lookouts up 1-0 early. An inning later, J.D. Martin (7-9) came on to relieve the lefty, and surrendered an RBI-triple to Jaylin Davis to double the Lookouts lead to 2-0.
The Biscuits couldn't get much going against Chattanooga starter Anthony Marzi through the first three frames, but in the fourth, a David Rodríguez RBI-single and a Mac James sac fly knotted things at two and chased the lefty from the game.
Williams Ramirez (2-5) was on in the fifth, and loaded the bases thanks to a Nathan Lukes single and back-to-back walks issued to Nate Lowe and Mike Brosseau. Dalton Kelly then bounced a ball to the first baseman Zander Wiel, which was high enough to score a run and gave the left fielder an RBI-single that handed the Biscuits the lead for good at 3-2.
Jake Cronenworth slashed a two-run single into center field in the next at-bat, and a run scored when Rodriguez grounded into a 6-4-3 double play as the Biscuits put up a four-spot in the fifth and led 6-2.
Lowe, who finished the game 4-for-4, added an RBI-single in the sixth, and Thomas Milone contributed a two-run single in the seventh to make it a 9-2 game. Martin went four innings of one-run ball, allowing just five hits and one walk to go along with three strikeouts in another road win for the knuckleballer. All seven of Martin's wins this season have come away from Riverwalk Stadium.
Chattanooga would mount a comeback with an RBI-double from Davis, who finished a home run shy of the cycle, in the seventh, and a gargantuan three-run homer to left off the bat of Brent Rooker in the eighth. Yoel Espinal allowed a run on a Jordan Gore RBI-single in the ninth, but finally slammed the door, getting Luis Arraez to fly out to left to end the game.
The Biscuits will go for win number 50 of the season on Saturday night when Benton Moss (1-3) clashes with Omar Bencomo (5-3) at 6:15 PM CT.
Once the Biscuits conclude their current nine-game road trip, the team will return to Riverwalk Stadium to open up a five-game series with the Mississippi Braves on Wednesday, July 18 when there will be a Bucket Hat Giveaway. The series will also include Outdoors Night featuring a Hunter Camo T-Shirt Giveaway on Thursday, July 19, First Responders Night & MAX Fireworks on Friday, July 20, Millennial Night featuring a Participation Ribbon Giveaway & MAX Fireworks on Saturday, July 21, and then a Mascot Poster Giveaway on Sunday, July 22.
