PENSACOLA, Flo. -The Biscuits (62-52) scored five times in the first and four times in the second, and coasted to a 12-2 victory over the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (59-53) to win the series on Monday night at Blue Wahoos Stadium. The 10-run victory was one of the largest of the season for the Biscuits, who handed the Wahoos their first series loss since May.
Wyatt Strahan (6-9) got the start for the Wahoos and got battered around, allowing 10 batters to come to the plate in the first inning. The Biscuits got an RBI-double from Southern League Player of the Week Nate Lowe to open up the scoring, which was followed up by an RBI-single by Mike Brosseau, and then a two-run single by Jake Cronenworth. David Rodríguez would cap off the five-run explosion with an RBI-single of his own.
Montgomery kept their foot on the accelerator in the second, loading the bases against Strahan for Cronenworth, who ripped a two-run single and gave the second baseman four RBIs through the first two innings. A bases-loaded walk to Rodriguez made it 8-0, and an RBI-fielder's choice by Lucius Fox made it 9-0 midway through two.
Benton Moss (5-4), who was coming off of the first nine-inning complete game of his career a week ago against the Jackson Generals, was outstanding again, spinning six more shutout innings to run his consecutive-scoreless inning streak to 13.1. The Biscuits had scored just 29 runs for Moss in the righty's previous 10 starts, but they provided him with plenty of support on this night.
A wild pitch brought home another run for the Biscuits in the fourth, a Nick Solak sac fly another one in the fifth, and finally a Solak RBI-single in the eighth was the cherry on top of an impressive night for Butter and Blue hitters. The Wahoos got a solo home run from Aristedes Aquino off Spencer Jones in the seventh, as well as an RBI-double by Narciso Crook in the defeat.
The Biscuits will have an off-day on Tuesday, but will return to Riverwalk Stadium to host the Birmingham Barons on August 8 when it will be Military Wednesday, featuring an F-35 Figurine Giveaway presented by AUM. The series also includes 'Rally in the Alley' Bar Crawl with a T-Shirt Giveaway on Thursday, August 9, Local Legends Night with MAX Fireworks on Friday, August 10, and Wrestling Night with an appearance by WWE Hall-of-Famer Jeff Jarrett and MAX Fireworks on Saturday, August 11. The series concludes with Bark in the Park and Kids Day, featuring a Kids Baseball Giveaway, on Sunday, August 12.
