MONTGOMERY, Ala. - In front of a raucous crowd of almost 7,000, the Biscuits (4-3) kept the Biloxi Shuckers (4-4) offense at bay for a third-straight game and defeated the 2018 Southern League runners up, 7-1, on Friday night at Riverwalk Stadium.
Josh Fleming (1-0) allowed just one run over six innings in his second-straight start, and helped the Biscuits push over .500 again with another impressive outing in his Capital City debut.
Montgomery was up against Brewers number 12 prospect Braden Webb (0-2), who after walking the bases loaded in the first, somehow escaped unscathed and settled down with a one-two-three second. But Lucius Fox opened up the third with a double, and Josh Lowe plated his teammate with a groundball single into center to give the Biscuits a 1-0 advantage.
An inning later, Kevin Padlo stepped up and collected his first Double-A hit on a screamer of a two-run double into the left-center field alley to make it a 3-0 affair, and put the game out of reach. A Jermaine Palacios RBI-fielder's choice and a Lowe RBI-double off the center-field wall capped off a four-run inning for the Biscuits.
Fox would add a sac fly in the sixth and Brendan McKay an RBI-groundout in the seventh for the Biscuits final run. Bruce Caldwell knocked in the lone run for Biloxi on a groundout in the fifth, as Blake Bivens worked three perfect innings of relief for his first save. The Biscuits have now held the Shuckers to one run over the last two games.
The Biscuits will try to win their first series of the season on Saturday when an opener and LHP Kenny Rosenberg (0-0) clash with RHP Thomas Jankins (1-0) at 6:05 PM CT when it will be Mardi Gras Night and MAX Fireworks. Sunday's series finale will be Jackie Robinson Day featuring a Kids T-Shirt Giveaway presented by AKD at 2:05 PM CT.
