CHATTANOOGA, Ten. – The Biscuits (50-48/22-14) split their doubleheader against the Chattanooga Lookouts (47-58/13-23). Montgomery stomped on the Lookouts in game one as they blasted four home runs. However, game two saw the Biscuits fade and run out of gas as they could not create a comeback spark for game two.

Game one of the doubleheader served as a mini home run derby as both sides racked up a total of six home runs. Montgomery prevailed 8-5 as they recorded four of their own in route to victory.

Biscuits slugger, Niko Hulsizer smashed the first of the four home runs with a solo shot to right in the top of the second inning. In the third, the Biscuits built a comfortable lead early as they went up 4-0. Kyle Manzardo was able to connect on a sac fly, while Ronny Simon impressively made himself around the diamond for an RBI-triple.

In the bottom of the fourth, Chattanooga found life and scored a pair. Elly De La Cruz got the first with a solo home run to left. Alex McGarry cut the lead in half 4-2 when he struck an RBI-double.

In the fifth, Montgomery turned it on full throttle as Hulsizer and Jordan Qsar blasted a pair of home runs an at-bat away from each other. Hulsizer hit his second solo dinger of the night while Qsar struck a two-run homer that made it 7-2. The flood continued in Chattanooga as Manzardo bombed a solo home run to right on a 2-2 count to extend the gap to 8-2.

Chattanooga was able to score a few more runs in closing time to improve the scoreboard, but was too little too late. Matt McLain got his first and only hit of the game in the bottom of the seventh in the form of an RBI-single. Soon later, a wild pitch by Biscuits Nathan Witt allowed Lookouts Mike Siani to come home and make it 8-4.

With the lead cut in half, Chattanooga was able to cut the gap even closer with another solid hit from De La Cruz, this time in the form of an RBI-double that brought . That would mark the last run for either team as Andrew Gross received the save and turned the lights out for game one.

Game two did not see nearly as much jump-out-your-seat action as game one as the Lookouts sneaked out with a close win, 2-3 to split the doubleheader.

The Biscuits' lone run came in the first inning when Manzardo grounded out, but Osleivis Basabe was able to score. It took four innings for the Lookouts to get a base hit, but when they did they made the most of it. Chattanooga outfielder TJ Hopkins broke the hitless streak with a double to center field to get on base. In the very next at-bat first baseman Alex McGarry smashed a two-run home run to take the lead 2-1.

From there the lead would remain with Chattanooga as the Biscuits stalled to get any more offense. The Biscuits failed to get a base hit in the final seventh inning and walked away with a close defeat and series split.

With the split Montgomery remains in first place in the South Division and three games above the Mississippi Braves. The Biscuits return to action and warm up the weekend when RHP Sean Hunley duels RHP Connor Phillips at 6:15 PM CT.
