BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Biscuits (19-25) took care of business for a third-straight day and took down the Birmingham Barons (19-24), 10-4, to win the series in four games on Sunday afternoon at Regions Field. Montgomery has now matched a season-high with their third three-game winning streak of the season.
Eduar Lopez (2-2) got the start for the Butter and Blue, and ran into trouble early serving up a solo home run in the first to Barons catcher Zack Collins. The homer was the first allowed by Lopez this season.
Jordan Guerrero (1-5) on the other side for Birmingham held the Biscuits scoreless through the first three innings, but then an RBI-fielder's choice off the bat of Montgomery shortstop Jermaine Palacios tied the game at one in the fourth.
Jameson Fisher would launch the second of four Birmingham solo homers hit on the day in the bottom of the fourth to put the Barons in front at 2-1, before the Biscuits took the lead for good in the fifth on an RBI-single by Brandon Lowe and a two-run single by Brett Sullivan.
Collins would bash his second home run of the day in the bottom of the fifth to make it a 4-3 game, but then Nick Solak crushed a three-run bomb of his own in the sixth to put the game out of reach at 7-3. Mike Brosseau's sac fly later in the inning made it 8-3, and then Solak's RBI-double in the eighth made it 9-4 after Keon Barnum went deep off Biscuits reliever Yoel Espinal in the sixth.
Michael Russell would knock in the Biscuits 10th run with an RBI-single in the ninth, and became the first Biscuit this season to record a four-hit game.
The Biscuits have now won four out of five, and will try to make it five out of six in Monday's series finale when the bullpen takes on Ian Clarkin (3-4) at 7:05 PM.
The Biscuits will continue their current 10-game road trip until they return home to Montgomery on May 29 when the Jackson Generals will be in town for Wings Fest and the Gathering of Eagles Celebration. The series will also feature Country Music Night featuring a T-Shirt Giveaway presented by WLWI on Thursday, May 31, Gump in the Gump featuring Greenbow Biscuits Jersey Auction and MAX Fireworks on Friday, June 1, and Flight Night featuring a C-130 Figurine Giveaway presented by AUM and MAX Fireworks on Saturday, June 2.
