BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Biscuits (18-25) continued their winning ways on Saturday night, taking down the Birmingham Barons (19-23) for a second-straight game by a score of 7-2 in game three at Regions Field.
Montgomery's night started with a bang with Ryan Boldt-who was leading off for the first time this season-taking Barons starter Spencer Adams (2-5) over the right-center field wall on the first pitch of the game to put the Biscuits up, 1-0. The homer was Boldt's fifth of the season.
In the third, Dalton Kelly slammed his second home run of the season, a two-run shot, to extend that lead to 3-0. Later in the inning, Brett Sullivan knocked in a run on a bloop single to center to make it 4-0.
Biscuits starter Zach Lee (6-1), who was coming off of the first complete game shutout of his career on Sunday, kept the Barons off balance for most of the night, going six innings and allowing just two runs on five hits with a walk and three strikeouts for another win. Lee's lone blemish was allowing a two-run home run to Barons catcher Seby Zavala in the third.
The Biscuits would add some more insurance in the seventh thanks to a two-run double by Michael Russell, and then in the ninth, the Biscuits third baseman was at it again, this time with a sac fly, to make it 7-2. Brandon Lowe and Nick Solak each tallied a three-hit game, and Curtis Taylor worked two innings of relief and Kyle Bird one, closing the door in the ninth.
The Biscuits have now won three out of four, and will try to make it four out of five on Sunday when Eduar Lopez (1-2) takes on Jordan Guerrero (1-4) at 3:00 PM.
The Biscuits will continue their current 10-game road trip until they return home to Montgomery on May 29 when the Jackson Generals will be in town for Wings Fest and the Gathering of Eagles Celebration. The series will also feature Country Music Night featuring a T-Shirt Giveaway presented by WLWI on Thursday, May 31, Gump in the Gump featuring Greenbow Biscuits Jersey Auction and MAX Fireworks on Friday, June 1, and Flight Night featuring a C-130 Figurine Giveaway presented by AUM and MAX Fireworks on Saturday, June 2.
