McWilliams frustrated Mississippi from the onset. The right-hander struck out the first two batters before turning in two scoreless frames.
Right fielder Nathan Lukes charged Montgomery's offense. The Biscuits' lead-off batter singled in his first two plate appearances, including an RBI-single in the second inning.
Montgomery slugger Nate Lowe continued his power surge in the third. The first baseman hammered his ninth home run with the Biscuits and nineteenth of the season, extending the advantage to 2-0.
Mississippi starter Enderson Franco (4-7) could not dodge the Biscuits' bats in the fifth. The Butter and Blue exploded, beginning with an RBI-single by Lowe. Dalton Kelly plated the 2018 All-Star Futures Game representative with a triple before scoring on Brett Sullivan's fielder's choice.
Leading 5-0, the Biscuits continued to pile on with Peter Maris' sixth home run with Montgomery.
Upon McWilliams being relieved, the Braves plated a pair of runs on Montgomery's bullpen. Alejandro Salazar recorded an RBI-single in the seventh prior to Travis Demeritte doubling home a run in the following frame.
Yoel Espinal's scoreless ninth inning clinched the victory in the series opener.
