MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Adrian De Horta (1-0) pitched five shutout innings and the Biscuits (1-0) provided the right-hander with more than enough offense in a convincing 7-1 win over the Mississippi Braves (0-1) in Game 1 of the 2021 Double-A South Championship Series on Tuesday night at Riverwalk Stadium. The Biscuits lead the best-of-five series, 1-0.

De Horta made his sixth start of the season for the Biscuits, and the right-hander worked a one-two-three top of the first, striking out Luke Waddell. Jared Shuster (0-1) started on the other side for Mississippi, and while the southpaw allowed a single to Ford Proctor, he still faced the minimum in the bottom of the first, striking out Jonathan Aranda.

De Horta sat the M-Braves down in order in the top of the second, striking out C.J. Alexander looking to end the frame. Shuster allowed a lead-off double to Ruben Cardenas to begin the bottom of the second, but the right fielder was left stranded on second as the Biscuits then went down in order, with the lefty picking up his second strikeout. De Horta allowed a one-out wall-ball double to Wendell Rijo in the top of the third, but still struck out the side, leaving the third baseman marooned on second.

Jim Haley led off the bottom of the third with a solo home run to left-center field and put the Biscuits up 1-0 early. De Horta then struck out hit sixth batter of the game as he sat the M-Braves down in order again in the top of the fourth. Shuster then struck out a pair in a one-two-three bottom of the fourth.

De Horta struck out his seventh batter after walking one in a scoreless top of the fifth. Shuster then retired the Biscuits in order in the bottom of the fifth. Chris Muller then entered for De Horta and spun a one-two-three top of the sixth, striking out two.

The Biscuits would increase their lead in the bottom of the sixth courtesy of an RBI-double by Aranda, an RBI-single by Cardenas, and another RBI-double by Cal Stevenson to make it a 4-0 game. Haley added to that advantage, hammering a two-run double off the wall in left-center to make it 6-0 later in the inning.

The M-Braves finally got on the board in the top of the seventh after a walk and an error by Biscuits third baseman Xavier Edwards led to a Trey Harris RBI-single and made it a 6-1 contest. Proctor responded with an RBI-single of his own in the bottom of the seventh to make it 7-1. Jordan Brink worked two scoreless innings out of the bullpen, and Cristofer Ogando a scoreless ninth inning to wrap up the win.

The Biscuits will try to win their final home game of the year and make it a 2-0 series lead against Mississippi when Easton McGee (6-2) takes on Freddy Tarnok (3-2) at 6:35 PM CT on Wednesday night at Riverwalk Stadium.

Game 3 will be played at 6:35 PM CT Friday at Trustmark Park in Pearl, Mississippi. Games 4 and 5 will also be at Trustmark Park in Pearl, MS if necessary.
