MONTGOMERY, Ala. - It took 10 innings, but the Biscuits (53-33) walked off the Tennessee Smokies (39-46), 6-5, thanks to the Kevin Padlo's sac fly off Bailey Clark (1-1) on Friday night and Bicentennial Night at Riverwalk Stadium.
Josh Fleming made his 13th start of the season, and the Biscuits provided him with their first of three sac flies when Taylor Walls knocked in the game's first run with one in the first. Tennessee would tie the game in the top of the second on a Gioskar Amaya RBI-single. Biscuits left fielder Brett Sullivan recorded two outfield assists in the same inning.
Cubs top prospect Nice Hoerner broke the 1-1 tie with a two-run home run to left-center in the third. Walls connected on an RBI-single up the middle in the bottom of the third that made it a 3-2 game. Then in the bottom of the fourth, an RBI-double by Brett Sullivan and a David Rodríguez sac fly put the Biscuits back in front against Alexander Vargas, who was making his Double-A debut.
Tennessee would reclaim the lead in the top of the fifth with an RBI-triple from Hoerner and an RBI-groundout by Jared Young that made it 5-4. Padlo would crack an RBI-double to left to tie it back at five in the bottom of the fifth. Padlo finished the game 3-for-3 with two doubles, a single, a walk, and two RBIs.
Brian Shaffer (2-2) was superb in relief of Fleming, going four scoreless innings and escaping from a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the top of the 10th thanks to a strikeout and an unbelievable tumbling catch in short right by second baseman Vidal Brujan to end the threat.
In the bottom of the 10th, Walls began the inning on second, then stole third to tie a Biscuits' single-game record with seven-something the club has done just three times in their 16-year history. Walls and Brujan each had two stolen bases, while Lucius Fox accounted for three of his own. After Josh Lowe struck out, Padlo delivered the walk-off sac fly on a high hit ball to left center that scored Walls and handed the Biscuits their third-straight victory, and fourth walk-off win of 2019.
The Biscuits will try to make it four in a row on Saturday when Riley O'Brien (4-5) takes the mound on Beach Night and MAX Fireworks at 6:05 PM CT.
The six-game homestand will also feature Lil' Crumbs Dress Like a Player Socks Giveaway on Sunday, July 7, and Camp Day on Tuesday, July 9.
