MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Biscuits (38-30) fell behind briefly, but rallied to take down the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (37-35), 11-4, in Sunday afternoon’s series finale at Riverwalk Stadium. The victory was the Biscuits’ 11th in their last 12 games, and with Mississippi’s loss earlier in the day, Montgomery is now tied with the M-Braves for the best record in the Double-A South.

Alex Valverde made his first start of the season for the Biscuits, and his first start since September 3, 2018 for A- Bowling Green, and looked sharp early, retiring the first six batters and picking up three strikeouts.

The Biscuits didn’t score in the first inning, but got a walk to Niko Hulsizer and a single from Ford Proctor against Wahoos starter Will Stewart in the second. That brought Joey Roach to the plate, and the designated hitter was able to muscle an RBI-single into shallow right-center to score Hulsizer with the game’s first run. The next batter was Jake Palomaki, who skied a sac fly to deep center to score Proctor and make it 2-0 Biscuits.

Valverde continued to cruise, allowing just a single to J.D. Orr in an otherwise perfect third, striking out his fourth batter. Valverde allowed a lead-off double to JJ Bleday to begin the fourth, and was lifted for Cristofer Ogando (1-0). Ogando hit Chris Chinea and then served up a three-run home run to left to J.D. Osborne to make it 3-2 Pensacola.

The lead wouldn’t last long as Justin Evans (0-1) came on for Stewart in the bottom of the fourth and issued a pair of bases-loaded walks to Garrett Whitley and Xavier Edwards to put the Biscuits back in front, 4-3. Jonathan Aranda then struck a two-out double to center to make it 6-3, chasing Evans from the game in his Double-A debut. Hulsizer then added a two-run single to make it 8-3.

Ogando kept the Wahoos off the board until handing the reins to Faustino Carrera in the seventh. Carrera worked a one-two-three seventh and a scoreless eighth. The Biscuits added three more runs in the bottom of the eighth thanks to another two-run double by Aranda and an RBI-double Jim Haley. The Wahoos added the final run of the game in the ninth inning on an RBI-single by Galli Cribbs Jr. off Joel Peguero.

The Biscuits will now head to Biloxi to take on the Shuckers in an eight-game series beginning on Tuesday night at 5:35 PM CT.

The Biscuits will return to Riverwalk Stadium for a seven-game series against the Tennessee Smokies starting on a Golden Biscuits Tuesday, August 3 at 6:35 PM CT.
