MOBILE, Ala. - The Biscuits (6-4) came out swinging and never looked back in their 6-1 series-opening win against the Mobile BayBears (4-6) on Monday night at Hank Aaron Stadium.
Jose Rodriguez (0-1) got the start for the home team and walked Lucius Fox to start the game before allowing a single to Tristan Gray. Dalton Kelly then singled home Fox, before Jesús Sánchez crushed a two-run double over the head of BayBears left fielder Erick Salcedo to make it 3-0-all before an out had been recorded. Brendan McKay would knock in Sanchez on a groundout to cap off the four-run inning.
In the second, Kevin Padlo launched his first Double-A home run on a towering shot off the roof of the clubhouse in right that made it 5-0, and in the fifth, Sanchez delivered his third hit of the contest, an RBI-single, that put the Biscuits up 6-0.
It was a bullpen day for the Butter an Blue pitching staff, and Jose Disla looked sharp early, tossing two scoreless innings to begin the game before handing the reigns to Blake Bivens (1-0). The former fourth round pick then extended his team-leading consecutive-scoreless inning streak to 8.1 innings before surrendering a run on a Jahmai Jones single in the sixth.
Ivan Pelaez pitched 2.1 scoreless innings, and then Curtis Taylor had to work around some traffic in his 2019 debut, allowing one run on three hits, but finally got Connor Justus to fly out to Brett Sullivan in left to end the game.
The Biscuits will go for their third-straight win on Tuesday when Brendan McKay (0-0) will make his second Double-A start against Jesus Castillo (0-1) at 6:35 PM CT.
The Biscuits will return to Riverwalk Stadium for a 10-game home stand against the Birmingham Barons (first five games) and Mobile BayBears (last five games) beginning on Thursday, April 25 when it will be Field of Dreams Night with a T-Shirt Giveaway.
