MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Tristan Gray's two-run home run broke a 3-3 deadlock in the eighth, and guided the Biscuits (5-4) to a 5-3 win in the series finale and rubber match against the Biloxi Shuckers (5-5) on Sunday afternoon at Riverwalk Stadium.
Ricardo Pinto started for the Biscuits and after working out of a jam in the first, allowed a wind-assisted two-run double to Trent Grisham that made it 2-0 Biloxi on what was a blustery day at the corner of Coosa and Tallapoosa. In the third, a Cooper Hummel RBI-single made it 3-0 Shuckers.
The Biscuits would answer back with a towering two-run homer in the bottom of the third off the bat of Josh Lowe, which pulled the Biscuits within one at 3-2 against Shuckers starter Alec Bettinger, who finished with eight strikeouts.
After a walk and a steal of second by Dalton Kelly with one out in the sixth, Jesús Sánchez barreled a single into left, but Shuckers left fielder Michael O'Neill did not field the ball cleanly, and allowed Kelly to score from second on the error that knotted things up at three.
Kelly would work an 11-pitch walk to open up the bottom of the eighth before stealing second. After a Sanchez strikeout, Gray then worked the count full against Devin Williams (2-1) before hammering a payoff pitch over the right field wall to hand the Biscuits their first lead of the day, and ultimately the win.
The Biscuits will now hit the road for the first of a 10-game road-trip that will begin Monday night against the Mobile BayBears at Hank Aaron Stadium at 6:35 PM CT. The Biscuits will return to Riverwalk Stadium for a 10-game home stand against the Birmingham Barons (first five games) and Mobile BayBears (last five games) beginning on Thursday, April 25 when it will be Field of Dreams Night with a T-Shirt Giveaway.
