JACKSONVILLE, Flo. - The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (15-28) finally snapped a scoreless streak of 22-consecutive innings, and beat the Biscuits (27-15) in the process, 4-0, on Saturday night at the Baseball Grounds to prevent the Butter and Blue from winning their third-straight game and seventh series of the season. The defeat was the Biscuits first shutout loss of 2019.
Riley O'Brien (1-2) started on the mound for Montgomery, and was cruising into the fifth of a scoreless contest, retiring 12-straight batters from the first to the fifth. With two outs and nobody on, John Silviano then reached on catcher's interference charged to Biscuits backstop Rene Pinto. Rodrigo Vigil then singled, and an Anfernee Seymour infield single ended Jacksonville's hapless drought, scoring Silviano from third. Magneuris Sierra then swatted a two-run double into right-center field that made it 3-0, Shrimp.
Jacksonville would add and RBI-double in the bottom of the sixth off the bat of Bryson Brigman, and O'Brien's counterpart Robert Dugger (4-5) threw seven scoreless innings, scattering just four hits, two walks, and five strikeouts en route to the victory. The Biscuits had their opportunities, but couldn't cash-in, stranding 10 men on-base. The loss was only the Biscuits' second in 13 games at The Baseball Grounds.
Montgomery will try to bounce back and take the series on Sunday when Sam McWilliams (2-1) clashes with Marlins top prospect Sixto Sanchez (0-0) at 2:05 PM CT.
The Biscuits will return to Riverwalk Stadium to open up a five-game series against the Jackson Generals on Wednesday, May 22. The series will also feature Southern Rock Night featuring a T-Shirt Giveaway presented by Alfa Insurance on Thursday, May 23; Ladies Night presented by At Home and MAX Fireworks on Friday, May 24; Greenbow Night featuring a Bobblehead Giveaway presented by Capital Trailways and MAX Fireworks on Saturday, May 25; and Lil' Crumbs Dress Like a Player Snellzilla Pillow Giveaway on Sunday, May 26.
