MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Biscuits (25-27) fell behind early and never recovered, dropping the series finale to the Mississippi Braves (32-22), 6-2, on Independence Day at Riverwalk Stadium. The two teams split the six-game series.

Adrian De Horta (0-1) made his second start for the Biscuits and ran into some trouble surrendering a solo home run to Wendell Rijo in the first. De Horta would settle down and retired everyone else between the first and the second, striking out three.

Mississippi starter Bryce Elder (1-0) worked two perfect innings to begin his evening. Peyton Battenfield then came on for De Horta in the third, and after an error by Seaver Whalen allowed Jefrey Ramos to reach, Greyson Jenista doubled, and then Tyler Neslony singled home the second Mississippi run of the game. A Drew Lugbauer sac fly later in the inning increased the M-Braves lead to 3-0, and then a Shea Langeliers RBI-single in the next at-bat made it 4-0.

The Biscuits loaded the bases with nobody out against Elder in the fifth, and got a sac fly from Seaver Whalen to make it a 4-1 contest. Battenfield settled down after his bumpy third and retired 14 of 15 batters between the fourth and the seventh, striking out seven.

Ruben Cardenas crushed his fifth home run of the season over the left field wall in the seventh to make it 4-2. But then Braden Shewmake’s RBI-double off the wall in right chased Battenfield from the game and extended Mississippi’s lead back to three at 5-2. A Neslony RBI-double in the ninth proved to be the final run of the game.

The Biscuits will have an off-day on Monday, and will then hit the road for a six-game series in Madison, Alabama to take on the Rocket City Trash Pandas for the first time beginning on Tuesday at 6:35 PM CT.
