Montgomery Surges 13-1 In Game One, Get Blanked 2-0 In Game Two

PENSACOLA, Flo. – The Biscuits (59-51/31-17) split their doubleheader against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (52-59/23-24) winning game one 13-1 and losing game two 2-0 Thursday night at Admiral Fetterman Field. Biscuits Brett Wisely and Blake Hunt recorded three RBIs each in game one to lead Montgomery to a dominant win.

PENSACOLA, Flo. – The Biscuits (59-51/31-17) split their doubleheader against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (52-59/23-24) winning game one 13-1 and losing game two 2-0 Thursday night at Admiral Fetterman Field. Biscuits Brett Wisely and Blake Hunt recorded three RBIs each in game one to lead Montgomery to a dominant win. Montgomery used all of their magic in game one as they failed to score and got blanked to end the evening.

Montgomery drove through game one of the doubleheader with minimal trouble from the Blue Wahoos. The Biscuits erupted for five unanswered runs in the first three innings. Outfielder Kameron Misner scored the first with an RBI-double in the top of the first and Wisely followed it up with another RBI-double to make it 2-0. Osleivis Basabe managed to strike an RBI-single to up the score to 3-0, before he managed to steal second base. At the same time, Wisely stole home to up the score to 4-0. Catcher Blake Hunt brought outfielder Jordan Qsar home and extended the lead to 5-0.

Pensacola’s Jose Devers delivered an RBI-double to break the goose egg in the bottom of the third to make it 5-1. In the top of the sixth, Montgomery went all bats on deck as they racked in eight consecutive runs in the top of the sixth. Basabe got things started first with Montgomery’s third RBI-double of the evening that grew the lead to 6-1. Kyle Manzardo popped one up for a sac fly to make it 7-1. Misner and Wisely delivered their second RBIs of the game with an RBI-single, and RBI-double respectively for the Biscuits to maintain their lead 9-1.

Hunt got his second two run RBI of the night, this time in the form of an RBI-double to make it 11-1. Wisely then put the final nail in the coffin with a two-run home run that grew the lead to 13-1 before finally getting retired. The score would stay that way as the Biscuits closed the game and headed into game two.

Game two did not have as much action as game one as it came down to the wire. The Biscuits and Blue Wahoos went scoreless for five innings and accumulated less than five hits between the two. In the fifth inning Demetrius Sims broke the tie on a line drive RBI-single to go up 1-0. Biscuits reliever, Jerry Yan kept the Biscuits at bay as he struck out four and only allowed one hits during his time on the mound. Pensacola took advantage and stayed on top with a solo home run by Norel Gonzalez to go up 2-0. The Biscuits were not able to answer back and Pensacola closed out the game to split the doubleheader.

The Biscuits remain in charge of the series with a 2-1 record. They will look to keep the advantage when Evan McKendry steps on the mound at 6:35 PM CT.

The Biscuits will return to Montgomery for a six-game series against the Birmingham Baronson August 30for a Golden Biscuits Tuesday at 6:35 PM CT.
