CHATTANOOGA, Ten. - Jose Siri hit the first-ever inside-the-park home run against the Biscuits (2-2), and the Chattanooga Lookouts (2-2) defeated Montgomery to hand the Butter and Blue a second-straight loss, 11-7, on Sunday afternoon at AT&T Field.
Former Faulkner University Eagle Ivan Pelaez made his Double-A debut as the Biscuits opener, and served up a solo home run in the first to Taylor Trammell, but retired the rest in the same inning. The Biscuits would tie the game in the third against Chattanooga starter Jordan Johnson with a Josh Lowe RBI-triple, and then took the lead on a Jesús Sánchez RBI-groundout.
The Lookouts would tie the game on a Ricardo Pinto's (0-1) wild pitch in the third, and after a Robbie Tenerowicz sac fly put the Biscuits up 3-2 in the top of the fourth, Tyler Stephenson's RBI-single knotted things at three in the bottom of the fourth.
RBI-singles from Sanchez and Brendan McKay put the Biscuits ahead once more at 5-3 in the top of the fifth, but TJ Friedl would tie things up again with a two-run single in the bottom of the fifth.
The next batter was Siri, who sent a towering fly ball to deep right which sent Jesus Sanchez crashing frighteningly into the wall and then down to the ground, as the Lookouts center fielder sped around the bases and beat the relay throw to the plate for the historic two-run inside-the-park homer that gave Chattanooga the lead for good at 7-5. After several minutes, Sanchez, with the help of Biscuits trainer Kris Russell, got up, shook off the pain, and remained in the game.
The Lookouts would add four more runs in the bottom of eighth against Dalton Moats, before Sanchez annihilated his first home run of the season in the ninth to finish the day with four-RBIs on top of his near-death experience with the wall.
The Biscuits and Lookouts will play a rubber match on Monday night with LHP Brendan McKay set to make his Double-A pitching debut at 6:15 PM CT.
The Biscuits return to Riverwalk Stadium for a five-game home stand against the Biloxi Shuckers on Wednesday, April 10 for Opening Night presented by Chick-Fil-A featuring Dueling Pianos and MAX Fireworks.
