Comeback falls short, Hens fall to Indy, 11-6

April 22, 2014

Toledo's return to Fifth Third Field Tuesday night did not go as planned for the Mud Hens.

Toledo's lack of hits early, coupled with a stellar performance by Indianapolis starting pitcher Casey Sadler, resulted in an 11-6 loss to open an eight-game homestand.

Toledo had won three of its previous four games entering Tuesday night.

The Hens are 7-12 overall, while the Indians improved to an International League West leading 13-5.

Sadler moved to 3-0 on the year, lowering his ERA to 1.67. He pitched seven shutout innings, allowing just four hits while striking out six.

Toledo trailed 11-0 entering the eighth before rallying with a six-run inning on five hits. The Hens sent 10 batters to the plate in the inning.

The Hens continued their late slew of hits into the ninth by loading the bases with one out before a flyout and groundout ended the game.

Toledo had 11 hits in the contest with seven coming between the eighth and ninth innings

Hernan Perez, James McCann and Daniel Fields each had two hits, leading the Hens at the plate. Jordan Lennterton was 1-for-5 including a two-run single in the eighth inning.

Every Toledo batter recorded a hit, except Ezequiel Carrera who saw his nine-game hitting streak snapped.

Toledo and Indianapolis played a scoreless opening four innings before the Indians tallied six runs in the fifth.

Indianapolis added another run in the seventh inning before putting together a four-run eighth.
