New attendance records at Fifth Third Field in 2013!

September 9, 2013

Holy Toledo! What a year at Fifth Third Field! THANK YOU to all the fans who attended a Mud Hens game in 2013. This season Fifth Third Field welcomed 560,080 people to the ballpark, the fourth highest total since 2002 and the highest attendance since 2008. The ballpark has now attracted a total of 5,576,977 people in the 12 seasons the Mud Hens have played in downtown Toledo!

In 2013 Fifth Third Field hosted 1,969 group outings -- totaling 143,718 fans in 2013 - breaking the 2007 record of 143,226. A group is defined as any party of 25 or more people.

Several other attendance records were set this season:

  • Fans rented a total of 267 party suites, a 15% percent increase over the previous peak year.
  • A Cut Above, the official catering group of Fifth Third Field, hosted 916 parties (for 57,499 meals).
  • 26,083 students attended one of the three School Celebration Days. They represented 248 total area schools, including 78 schools from Michigan. The students that came the farthest were from Mason Middle School in Waterford, Michigan. They traveled 86 miles to attend a game!
  • In 2013 the Mud Hens welcomed more children from youth sports teams (9,486) than even before. The young athletes were invited to line up along the baseline before the game to be recognized. These young athletes play Little League baseball and softball, soccer, football and hockey - there was even a junior roller derby team at Fifth Third Field this year!

The Mud Hens received national acclaim this year as the Fifth Third Field Fanatic Freeze Sundae was voted the "best concession food in Minor League Baseball" by MiLB.com.

For the first time in franchise history the SportsBusiness Journal named Toledo the 'Number One Minor League Market in the Country'.

"This has been such a significant year for our franchises," says Joe Napoli, Toledo Mud Hens and Walleye general manager. "After 12 seasons, our corporate and community partners and enthusiastic fans continue to play a major role in our success. We couldn't ask for better fans and want to thank the Toledo Region for another great year."
