Locals first saw the words "You Will Do Better In Toledo" illuminated on a large electrical sign in downtown Toledo in 1913. The sign was taken down in 1926, but the spirit of that slogan lives on today. This Saturday, August 26, the Hens, along with Toledo-based T-shirt company Jupmode, will celebrate the Glass City during "You Will Do Better In Toledo Night", presented by A-Gas and Telesystem.
Mud Hens designer Will Mellon pulled inspiration for the team jersey from the original sign. The jersey has a classic black-and-white color scheme with the 'TOLEDO' on the front of the uniform and the player numbers on the back replicating the sign's typeface and light bulbs. The sleeves and on-field cap sport a retro Mud Hens logo - the Mortimer logo - and the original 'You Will Do Better In Toledo' slogan.
Throughout the game there will be special Toledo-themed giveaways and fans can share their "do better" stories to be shown on the videoboard.
The Mud Hens play the Louisville Bats on Saturday, August 26. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. Stick around after the game for fireworks!
