TOLEDO, OH- It's a slogan that has stood the test of time-You will do better in Toledo. Toledoans first saw those words illuminated on a sign in 1913. While it is unclear when the original sign came down, one thing remains true and that is the spirit of the sign lives on today.
Those six words, You will do better in Toledo, remind people why they are proud to be Toledoans.
On Saturday, August 26, the Mud Hens, along with Toledo-based T-shirt company Jupmode, will celebrate the 419 at Fifth Third Field during You will do better in Toledo Night, presented by A-Gas and Telesystem.
For the first time, we are proud to show-off the specialty jerseys that your Toledo Mud Hens will wear on the field.
Mud Hens designer, Will Mellon, pulled inspiration for the team jersey from the original sign. The jersey has a classic black-and-white color scheme with the Toledo and player numbers replicating the sign's typeface and light bulbs. The sleeves and on field cap sport the Mortimer logo and original slogan completing the vintage feel.
Throughout the game there will be special Toledo-themed giveaways and fans can share their "do better" stories which will be shown on the video board.
