Myrtle Beach, S.C. - The Carolina Mudcats closed out the 2013 season with a 2-1 victory over the Myrtle Beach Pelicans on Monday evening at TicketReturn.com Field. The Pelicans (77-62) advanced on to play the Salem Red Sox in the Southern Division Championship Series of the Carolina League. The Mudcats finish the season 57-83.

Joe Colon (5-3) got the win in the season-ender. The right-hander allowed one unearned run and two hits over six innings. He faced three batters in the seventh, but J.D. Reichenbach pitched Carolina out of a bases-loaded, no out situation. Louis Head hurled the final 1.2, striking out three, to earn his third save.

Kevin Pucetas (1-3) suffered the loss after allowing two runs on three hits over 6.1 innings. The knuckleballer struggled to control the pitch, walking seven batters. He struck out four.

Joey Wendle got the Mudcats on the board in the third inning. Todd Hankins and Bryson Myles worked walks off Pucetas and moved into scoring position on a double steal. Wendle sent a bounder up the middle that scored both runners for a 2-0 lead.

The Pelicans got a run back in the fifth thanks a defensive lapse. Royce Bolinger sent a sharp grounder to short that Erik Gonzalez gloved. The throw to first sailed into the stands, allowing Bolinger to second. Preston Beck rolled a pitch towards Gonzalez the next at-bat, but his throw to third was late. Colon induced a double play ball, but Bolinger scored to cut into the lead.
