MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (July 9, 2018) - The Myrtle Beach Pelicans fell 3-1 on Monday night in the series opener against the Carolina Mudcats from TicketReturn.Com Field at Pelicans Ballpark.
The Pelicans (40-49, 6-13) struck first in the bottom of the second inning when Yeiler Peguero looped an RBI single into shallow left, scoring Roberto Caro to make it 1-0. 

In the third inning, the Muddies (46-42,12-6) tied it against Birds starter Alex Lange (5-6) with an RBI ground out from Demi Orimoloye. Carolina would take the lead with two runs in the fifth. Dallas Carroll gave Carolina the advantage with an RBI double before Weston Wilson's run-scoring single made it 3-1 Mudcats. 
Victor Diaz (5-5) earned the win for Carolina by allowing just one run over his five innings of work while whiffing five batters. 
Myrtle Beach's Ryan Kellogg and Jhon Romero combined to toss four shutout innings out of the bullpen.
Both D.J. Wilson and Caro collected two hits for the Pelicans. 
The Pelicans continue their four-game series against Carolina on Tuesday with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch. RHP Erich Uelmen  (2-1, 3.18 ERA) starts against Mudcats LHP Cameron Roegner (8-4, 2.10 ERA). The Pelicans will celebrate Woodstock Night with special tie-dyed jerseys that will be auctioned off at the end of the game. In addition, the night will feature $2 tacos and tallboys presented by Abuelos Mexican Restaurant, Nash FM and WBTW.
