After his dominant month of July, the 24-year-old was promoted to Double-A Tennessee on Tuesday.

Marquez, who was promoted to Myrtle Beach from Low-A South Bend on Tuesday, went 2-1 with a 1.65 ERA in five starts for South Bend in the month of July. The southpaw struck out 41 batters in 27.1 innings during the month and opponents managed just a .175 batting average against him.

The Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic native, is the No. 4 rated prospect in the Cubs' farm system according to and is the highest ranked pitching prospect.

The 20-year-old was particularly dominant in his last two outings of the month as he set a new career high in strikeouts when he punched out a South Bend record 14 in six innings against the Lake County Captains and followed that up with an eight-strikeout performance across six-hitless innings in a win over West Michigan.

His performance against Lake County earned Marquez the Midwest League Pitcher of the Week honors for the week of July 22-28.

On the season, Marquez is 5-4 with a 3.61 ERA and is third among Cubs' farmhands with 102 strikeouts in 77.1 innings.

Marquez, who was signed by the Cubs in 2016, has been virtually untouchable by left-handed hitters this season as he is holding them to a .106 batting average on the year.

Marquez joins Patterson and Tyler Durna as the three Pelicans to claim monthly awards as Patterson and Durna took home the Cubs' Pitcher and Player of the Month awards in the month of June, respectively.

Pedro Martinez of the Eugene Emeralds was named the Cubs Minor League Player of the Month for July after he hit .403/.481/.552 with the Arizona Cubs before going 6-for-15 in five games with Eugene to end the month.
