Minor League Baseball has announced that Destiny Whitmore, Nashville Sounds' Community Relations Manager, has been awarded a Women in Baseball Leadership Event Scholarship.
The Women in Baseball Leadership Event Scholarship was created to assist female executives in baseball who may not otherwise have the opportunity to attend the Baseball Winter Meetings and the Women in Baseball Leadership Event. After its inaugural year in 2017, the scholarship expanded its reach from two to four recipients, providing more women in the industry an opportunity to attend the annual events.
The award includes registration to the Baseball Winter Meetings, which will be held December 9-13, in Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, lodging at the host hotel and flight accommodations. Whitmore will also attend the Women in Baseball Leadership Event on Tuesday, December 11.
"I'm extremely thankful to be awarded one of Minor League Baseball's Women in Baseball Leadership Event Scholarships," said Whitmore. "I'm honored and excited to attend the Baseball Winter Meetings and have the opportunity to connect with my peers at the leadership event."
Whitmore joined the Sounds in March of 2016 and was promoted to her current role that December. She oversees the Sounds' many community initiatives and charity partnerships, emphasizing the importance of social responsibility, education, and the power of sport to transform lives. Under Whitmore's guidance, the Sounds' front office staff has contributed 2,443 hours of community service in the greater Nashville area.
The Women in Baseball Leadership Event was established in 2008 at the Baseball Winter Meetings, providing a platform for female executives in Minor League Baseball and Major League Baseball the opportunity to network with their peers, obtain guidance on career development and enhance their professional skills. Since then, the event has grown to include other ancillary events and opportunities such as the scholarship program.
The 42nd season of Nashville Sounds baseball begins on Thursday, April 4 when the Nashville Sounds host the Iowa Cubs at First Tennessee Park. Season ticket memberships are available now by calling (615) 690-4487 or by visiting www.nashvillesounds.com.
