Dwyer Promoted to Kansas City

Royals Add Two Former Naturals
September 18, 2013

SPRINGDALE, AR - A lot can happen in 24 hours, just ask Chris Dwyer. A day after retiring 21 of 22 batters in the Triple-A National Championship game en route to being named the MVP, the left-hander is on his way to Kansas City to make his debut in a major league uniform.

The Kansas City Royals, the Naturals parent club, have announced they have re-called two former Naturals earlier today: the 25-year-old Dwyer and INF Irving Falu. Both players were on the field last night in the Storm Chasers Championship victory over the Durham Bulls. Original Natural Irving Falu made his Major League Debut with the Royals last season. Dwyer will get his first taste of the Big Leagues and becomes the 39th former Natural to reach the majors.

Drafted in 4th Round of the 2009 MLB June Amateur Draft out Clemson University, Dwyer started 4 games for the Naturals in 2010, and spent all of the 2011 season and half of the 2012 season in Northwest Arkansas. The former Tiger threw the bulk of the first no-hitter in Arvest Ballpark history on May 10, 2012 against the Springfield Cardinals when he tossed 6⅔ hitless innings tallying two walks and five strikeouts. He combined with three others, including Royals RHP Greg Holland, to complete the feat. In 48 games in a Naturals uniform, the Massachusetts-native holds a 15-19 record with a 5.29 ERA in 245 innings. This season for Omaha, Dwyer was 10-11 with a 3.55 ERA in 29 games.

Originally drafted in the 21st Round of the 2003 Draft, Irving Falu hit .341 in 24 games with Kansas City last season starting games at second base, third base, and shortstop. In 2008, Falu spent the entire 2008 season with the Naturals and hit .301 with 5 homeruns and 42 RBI in 101 games for Brian Poldberg's first-year Naturals garnering starts at second base, third base, shortstop and all three outfield positions. This season the 30-year-year old played his fifth season with AAA-Omaha.

When he takes the mound for Kansas City Dwyer will join OF Wil Myers, RHP Yordano Ventura, INF Ed Lucas, C Cody Clark, LHP Kevin Chapman and OF Derrick Robinson as former Naturals to make their Major League debuts this season.

The Seventh Season of Naturals Baseball begins Thursday, April 3, 2014 in Frisco, TX. The team opens at Arvest Ballpark on Thursday April 10, 2014 against the same Frisco Rough Riders.
