CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Naturals' catcher, Zane Evans clubbed his first home run of the season in the Naturals series opening loss to the Hooks, a 10-4 final on Easter Sunday afternoon at Whataburger Field.
Trailing 3-0 entering the fourth inning, Mauricio Ramos opened the frame with an infield single, his second hit of the game. Evans tagged a 1-2 pitch from Corpus Christi's starter, Brock Dykxhoorn off the left-field foul pole to trim the Naturals' deficit to 3-2.
Northwest Arkansas (3-7) tied the game in the seventh inning when Donnie Dewees scored from second base on a two-out single by Humberto Arteaga. Dewees stroked a two-out, two-strike single to right field, advanced to second on a throwing error by Hooks' reliever, Jacob Doris and scored two pitches later on the single from Arteaga into center.
Naturals starter, Corey Ray worked 4.0 innings, allowing three runs on six hits with four strike outs in his second start of the season. Reliever, Pedro Fernandez (0-2, 6.75) entered in relief and struck out three over 2.1 innings. Left-hander Tim Hill worked the final 1.2 innings for the Naturals.
Corpus Christi (7-3) regained the lead in the bottom of the seventh after Drew Ferguson narrowly avoided the tag of Evans at the plate. Ramon Laureano singled to right when Logan Moon fired a bullet to the plate. Evans received the throw some-25-feet up the third base line and Ferguson side-stepped a tag attempt, touch the plate right before the applied tag. The Hooks would score one more in the seventh inning to take a 5-3 lead and tack on five more in the eighth.
