Wil Myers Wins Spink Award as Topps/Minor League Player of the Year

SPRINGDALE, AR - Wil Myers has been announced today as the recipient of the 53rd annual J.G. Spink Award for the Topps/Minor League Player of the Year. Myers led the Minor Leagues with 109 RBI and 313 total bases and has the second most home runs in the minors with 37.

After batting .343 with 13 home runs and 30 RBI for the Naturals in 35 games, the Royals third-round selection from 2009 was promoted to Omaha. Myers hit .304 with 15 doubles, five triples, 24 home runs and 79 RBI in 99 games with the Storm Chasers.

During the 2012 campaign Myers competed in the SiriusXM MLB All-Star Futures Game this July at Kauffman Stadium, during which he collected two hits and three RBI's for the U.S. squad. Following the Futures Game, Myers then participated in the Pacific Coast League All-Star Game and was named the "Star of Stars".

Myers is the third Royal to win the J.G. Spink award, joining Johnny Damon (1995) and Alex Gordon (2006). "I am honored to win this prestigious award from Topps and Minor League Baseball," Wil Myers said. "To join a list with great players such as Johnny Damon and Alex Gordon is extremely humbling for me."

This is the third award for the Royals prospect, earlier this year Myers was named both Baseball America and USA Today's Minor League Player of the Year.
