Hats for Heroes program is a MiLB initiative intended to raise funds and awareness for Operation Hat Trick (OHT), a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization that generates funds for the recovery, education, and future employment of service members and veterans. OHT raises awareness of veterans' issues through its OHT branded merchandise and distributes financial support to organizations that provide relief to veterans and their families. Founded at the University of New Hampshire, the program dedicated to the memory of Nate Hardy and Mike Koch, two Navy SEALs killed in Iraq in 2008. They fought and died together and are buried alongside each other at Arlington National Cemetery.
Through a partnership with minor league baseball, OHT is expanding to yield greater benefits to recovering soldiers and veterans. The sale of OHT branded caps generates funds donated to organization that support the recovery, education and future employment of wounded soldiers and veterans.
