Boyd Dominates Again In 4-1 Win

Manchester, NH- Southpaw Matt Boyd allowed one run on three hits over seven innings for his fourth win as the Fisher Cats turned back Altoona 4-1 before a big crowd of 8,066 on Saturday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.

Boyd (4-1) walked one and struck out eight. His Eastern League-leading ERA stands at 1.05 after his first nine starts of the season for New Hampshire (22-20). He also leads the league with 56 strikeouts. Greg Burke worked a scoreless eighth inning and Blake McFarland finished up for his seventh save.

The first five Fisher Cats reached in the bottom of the third inning as New Hampshire scored three runs. Shane Opitz doubled and Ian Parmley bunted for a base hit. Jorge Flores plated Opitz with a single and Dwight Smith Jr. followed with a two-run double to the gap in left center for a 3-0 lead.

Altoona (23-17) hit the board in the top of the fifth inning on Eric Wood's first home run of the season off Boyd.

Matt Newman led off the bottom of the sixth inning with his fifth home run to put the Fisher Cats up 4-1.

Starter Matt Benedict (0-1) took the loss for the Curve.

The series with Altoona continues on Sunday at 6:35 p.m. The team will honor Bedford native and Navy SEAL Blake Marston, who was killed in January. An Atlas Fireworks Show presented by Queen City Cupcakes will follow the game. It's also a Hood Kids Club Game.
