Manchester, NH – With a season-high 15 runs and 22 hits, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays Double-A affiliate) clobbered the Hartford Yard Goats (Colorado Rockies) 15-2 on Saturday night at Delta Dental Stadium.
Top prospect Austin Martin went 5-for-6 with two doubles, two RBI, two runs and a stolen base. He became the 10th player in Fisher Cats history to record a five-hit game.
Gabriel Moreno homered and drove in three runs to improve his league-leading batting average to .375 and RBI total to 38.
Samad Taylor and Vinny Capra each logged four-hit nights, with Taylor driving four runs and Capra scoring three times.
The Fisher Cats broke the game open early with five runs in the second inning, starting with a line drive homer from Moreno to lead off the frame. Vinny Capra and Martin delivered RBI singles, and Samad Taylor hit the first of two two-run doubles as New Hampshire took a 5-0 advantage.
New Hampshire got four more in the fourth inning to make it 9-0, thanks to Taylor's second two-run double, an RBI double from Martin, and a run-scoring single by Otto Lopez.
The Fisher Cats added two more in the sixth with an RBI double from Lopez and a run-scoring groundout by Moreno. They scored three runs in the seventh with a two-run double from Martin and an RBI single by Moreno. In the eighth, it was Reggie Pruitt driving in the 15th run with a double to left field.
The pitching staff held Hartford to two runs on eight hits. Elvis Luciano returned from the injured list and kept the Yard Goats scoreless through 1.2 innings. Jon Harris (W, 2-2) recorded the final out of the second inning, and earned the win as New Hampshire broke the 0-0 tie in the next half inning.
Maximo Castillo took over for the next six innings, holding Hartford to two runs on seven hits with no walks and five strikeouts. Fitz Stadler recorded the final three outs with a hitless ninth.
The series wraps up on Sunday, which is Father's Day at Delta Dental Stadium. Kids Run the Bases after the game, thanks to the NH State Liquor Commission, Division of Enforcement, and the first 500 fans get a free sign from Coca-Cola. Every Fisher Cats game this season will air on AM 610 WGIR.
