Peter O'Brien had two hits and two RBI, pacing the New Orleans Baby Cakes to a 3-2 win over the Nashville Sounds on Friday night.
After having their seven-game road winning streak snapped Thursday in Memphis, the 'Cakes began the weekend series at First Tennessee Park with their 10th win in the last 12 games. New Orleans is back to within a game of the .500 mark.
O'Brien continued his hot hitting since a late-July promotion from Double-A, driving in a run in the top of the first with a single to put the Baby Cakes ahead, 2-0. His double in the third scored Chris Bostick, who walked with one out.
O'Briend is 9-for-18 with four home runs and seven RBI over his last six games.
Tyler Cloyd (5-4) won his third straight start by scattering two runs and seven hits in 5 2/3 innings. Doubles by Beau Taylor and Sheldon Neuse in the sixth brought Nashville within a run at 3-2, but Jose Quijada kept the Sounds at bay with 2 1/3 scoreless frames, and Jumbo Diaz pitched the ninth to pick up his 11th save.
The 'Cakes bullpen has allowed just four runs in 37 2/3 innings over the last 11 games, good for a 0.96 ERA.
Eric Joksich (4-10) gave up only four hits in six innings but took the loss for the Sounds, who have dropped three straight on the heels of a franchise-record 15-game winning streak.
The teams continue the three-game set on Saturday at 7:05 p.m.
