Gabriel Guerrero pounded a two-run home run and added four hits and four RBI as New Orleans defeated El Paso 7-6 on Thursday night.
The Chihuahuas scored a pair in the first inning off New Orleans starter Héctor Noesi off a solo homer by Luis Urías and a triple by Jose Pirela, earning the little-league homer on an errant Guerrero throw.
Guerrero's four hits and four RBI both tie the best by a 'Cakes player this season.
The 'Cakes bounced back with the Guerrero home run in the second and added four runs in the third inning thanks to doubles from Deven Marrero, Isan Díaz and Guerrero.
Diaz extended his hitting streak to 14 games, the longest by a Baby Cake this season, surpassing Matt Snyder's 13-gamer from April 14 to May 4. It is the longest streak of Diaz's Triple-A tenure, and two shy of an overall career high.
Noesi (6-3) allowed four runs on five hits in seven innings and earned his sixth win of the season. He gave up three home runs for his second straight start, tying for second most in the Pacific Coast League, with 15 total on the season.
The 'Cakes added a run in the fifth inning with a Guerrero one-out single to give New Orleans a 7-3 lead. The Chihuahua's league-leading offense would answer with three home runs and scored two in the ninth inning off Kyle Keller, who quelled any additional damage to lock down the save.
It was New Orleans's eighth win in their last 12 road games, as they played their second away game in a stretch of 22 road games in 31 total through July 18.
The 'Cakes and Chihuahuas play the rubber match of the series tonight, with first pitch at 8:05 p.m. Central. The game can be heard on  WODT SPORTS 1280 AM or cakesbaseball.com.
