'Cakes end season with 10-1 drubbing

Rosell Herrera had three hits and drove in five runs as the New Orleans Baby Cakes piled up 16 hits in a 10-1 rout of the Oklahoma City Dodgers in Monday's season finale.
New Orleans finished the year with a 73-65 record, its most games above .500 since winning the league championship in 2001.
Herrera got the 'Cakes on the board in the opening frame with an RBI triple and scored on Peter O'Brien's ground out for a 2-0 lead. Herrera's two-run single in the fourth doubled the Baby Cakes' advantage to 4-0.
After Kolton Mahoney worked five shutout innings, the Dodgers dented the scoreboard on Cameron Perkins' ninth home run of the season in the sixth inning. That was the only damage against Mahoney (2-1), who struck out 10 without a walk while allowing just three hits in six innings, and chipped in two hits at the plate, one of six 'Cakes to post a multi-hit effort.
The Baby Cakes scored in each of their final three at-bats to put the game out of reach. Eight batters came to the plate in the seventh, highlighted by Gabriel Guerrer's RBI single and a two-run single by Monte Harrison. A run-scoring single by Yadiel Rivera in the eighth was followed by a two-run single in the ninth by Tyler Heineman, who reached base four times and ended the year hitting .336.
Jose Quijada fanned four in a pair of scoreless innings of relief, and Brian Moran retired the side in order in the ninth to close out the Baby Cakes' 40th road victory.
Daniel Corcino (8-8) gave up four runs and six hits in 3 2/3 innings to suffer the defeat. He struck out four and walked four.
New Orleans wrapped up its 27th season 10 games behind the division champion Round Rock Express.
