Garcia homer walks off 'Cakes in nightcap

Baby Cakes fall one out shy of claiming two wins in Memphis

One out away from claiming a pair of victories at AutoZone Park, the New Orleans Baby Cakes saw Redbirds outfielder Adolis Garcia smack a two-run homer to give Memphis a 4-3 win late Tuesday night.

After the 'Cakes held on to win the continuation of Monday's rain-suspended game, 4-3, New Orleans grabbed a quick 2-0 advantage in the nightcap on Rosell Herrera's two-RBI double in the opening frame.

Emergency starter Brian Moran held Memphis scoreless for three innings, and Jeff Kinley wiggled out of a bases-loaded jam in the fourth before the Redbirds broke through in the fifth. Garcia singled home their first run to cash in Randy Arozarena's leadoff single, and Justin Williams evened the score on a grounder up the middle.

Isan Diaz continued to swing a scorching hot bat by blasting his 20th home run of the season with one out in the top of the sixth to put New Orleans back in front. Diaz also homered on Monday before the rain arrived, and has gone deep in four of his last five games to equal his career high, set in 2016 with Single-A Wisconsin.

Kyle Keller (1-2) was called upon to record the final six outs and retired the Redbirds in order in the sixth, but issued a leadoff walk to Arozarena in the seventh ahead of Garcia's 16th home run of the year, handing the Baby Cakes' bullpen its league-leading 19th blown save of the campaign.

Seth Elledge (1-1) was credited with the win by tossing a scoreless inning in relief of Genesis Cabrera, who scattered three runs and seven hits in six innings.

The teams meet in the rubber match of the five-game set on Wednesday at 6:35 p.m.
