Mooney's pop powers 'Cakes over Sky Sox

Peter Mooney went 3-for-5 with a three-run homer to support six shutout innings from Jarlin Garcia as the New Orleans Baby Cakes routed the Colorado Springs Sky Sox, 11-1 on Sunday afternoon.
One night after collecting a three-run double to tie his Triple-A career high in runs batted in, Mooney drilled his first home run of the season to cap a five-run fifth inning as New Orleans built an 8-0 advantage. Mooney also singled in the fourth and seventh innings and is hitting .324 on the year.
The 'Cakes got three hits from Cristhian Adames, who drove in a pair of runs, and two hits and two RBI apiece from Jon Rodriguez and Chad Wallach.
That was more than enough offense for Garcia (2-2), who beat Colorado Springs for the second start in a row. The left-hander danced out of trouble in the first two frames before settling in to hold the Sky Sox without a hit over his final four innings. Garcia walked two and struck out a season-high seven.
The Sky Sox broke up the shutout bid when Andres Blanco led off the seventh with a home run off Mike Kickham, who bounced back to pitch the final three innings and was credited with his first save.
Cameron Roegner, brought up from Single-A Carolina to make his first Triple-A start, was charged with five runs on eight hits in 4 1/3 innings in a losing effort.
New Orleans salvaged a split of the four-game series, and ended the all-time series against Colorado Springs with a record of 83-111.
The Baby Cakes embark on a seven-day, eight-game road trip beginning Monday at 7:05 p.m. in Oklahoma City.
