The Colorado Springs Sky Sox scored three times in the first inning en route to a 5-1 win over the New Orleans Baby Cakes on Saturday night.
Brett Phillips doubled to lead off the game and Tyron Taylor followed a walk to Orlando Arcia with a double to score both runners and advanced to third on a throwing error to the plate. Domingo Santana brought in the third run of the frame on a sacrifice fly.
The Sky Sox escaped a bases loaded jam in the top of the third, then tacked on a run in the bottom half on a ground out by Jett Bandy, who later added an RBI single.
Eric Campbell got the 'Cakes on the board in the sixth with an RBI single to cash in a Magneuris Sierra double, one of two hits for Campbell, who boosted his batting average to .332. New Orleans again loaded the bases with no outs, but reliever Nick Ramirez (2-1) escaped further damage.
Adrian Houser fanned three and allowed three hits in four shutout frames for the Sky Sox, who have claimed three of the first four games in the series to extend their division lead over second-place Oklahoma City.
Odrisamer Despaigne (2-2) gave up four runs - three earned - and six hits in four innings and took the loss as New Orleans sunk six games below the .500 mark to equal a season low.
The Baby Cakes play their final game before the All-Star break and their final game ever in Colorado Springs on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
