2020 Minor League Baseball Season Shelved 

St. Petersburg, Fla., June 30, 2020 — Major League Baseball™ (MLB™) has informed Minor League Baseball™ (MiLB™) that it will not be providing its affiliated Minor League teams with players for the 2020 season. As a result, there will not be a Minor League Baseball season in 2020.

“These are unprecedented times for our country and our organization as this is the first time in our history that we’ve had a summer without Minor League Baseball played,” said Minor League Baseball President & CEO Pat O’Conner. “While this is a sad day for many, this announcement removes the uncertainty surrounding the 2020 season and allows our teams to begin planning for an exciting 2021 season of affordable family entertainment.”

“We had remained hopeful that we would still play at least a portion of our season,” said Mickey Walker, CEO for the Volcanoes. “We prepared for the worst and hoped for the best. We understand yet are saddened by the news from Major League Baseball but ultimately everyone’s safety is of utmost concern.”

“The Volcanoes priorities have always been the health and safety of our fans, players, coaches and our staff.” said Volcanoes’ owner Jerry Walker. “We planned for an exciting 2020 season and now our organization will do the same for 2021. In the meantime, we are planning to host a wide variety of events this summer at Volcanoes Stadium.”

The Volcanoes' had already announced that any tickets for the 2020 season which are unused, regardless of the reason, Will Be Honored for 2021. So, there will be No Wasted Tickets! Everything is simply rolling over to next season.

Mickey Walker said, “This could work out especially well for All as it is very possible the Northwest League season will expand next year and begin in April 2021, playing 120 to 130 games - instead of the current 76 game schedule. All Paid in Full season ticket holders for 2020, will be honored as paid in full for 2021 even though there could be many additional games! We sincerely want to thank our fans for their patronage and understanding during these difficult times. We look forward to the return of professional baseball next season to Volcanoes Stadium,” concluded Walker.

2020 will be the first season since 1996 without professional baseball in the Salem-Keizer region. Volcanoes Stadium has served as a gathering spot for nearly 2 ½ million fans since its 1997 opening. Minor League Baseball, which began as the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues, was founded on Sept. 5, 1901.
