KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (Aug. 10, 2017) - Micker Adolfo launched his second grand slam of the season, the first of three Kannapolis home runs on the night, as the Intimidators defeated the Greensboro Grasshoppers 8-4 on Thursday at Intimidators Stadium supported by Carolinas HealthCare System. Kannapolis (20-27 Second Half, 59-56) ended a six-game losing streak with the win.
After hits in each of his first two at-bats, Adolfo finished the evening 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored. White Sox 2017 first-round pick Jake Burger also recorded a multi-hit game, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
Intimidators' starter Luis Martinez (6-1) earned the win, tossing 5 and 2/3 innings while allowing four runs on five hits with two walks and nine strikeouts. Lane Hobbs recorded his first save of the season allowing just one hit in 3 and 1/3 scoreless innings of relief. Greensboro's Dustin Beggs (9-6) took the loss surrendering eight runs on eight hits in five frames.
After falling behind 4-0 in the top of the first inning, Kannapolis tied the score in the bottom half of the frame. Alex Call, Blake Rutherford, and Burger each singled in succession loading the bases with no outs for Adolfo. His grand slam to left field marked his 16th home run of the season, and the second grand slam by a Kannapolis batter this season, both by Adolfo.
Kannapolis extended its lead in the third inning when Gavin Sheets launched his second home run of the season over the right field fence to put Kannapolis up 7-4.
The final homer came in the bottom of the fourth when Aaron Schnurbusch lined one the opposite way over the left field fence to make it an 8-4 game. The homer was Schnurbusch's third of the season.
 
Kannapolis continues its seven-game homestand on Friday night with the second game of a four-game series versus Greensboro at 7:05 p.m. Friday is Military Appreciation Night and gates open at 6 p.m. The Intimidators send to the mound RHP Yosmer Solorzano (3-9, 6.38 ERA) against Grasshoppers RHP Kolton Mahoney (4-5, 3.42 ERA).
