Replica E.L. Trophy, Owens Perm Hat, Bautista Figurine Headline 22 Curve Giveaways

Unique Summer "Cruise" Series, Tenacious C, and Al Tuna also Featured in 2011 Freebie Schedule
February 28, 2011
CURVE, Pa. - With a list of 22 different giveaway events to choose from, Curve fans of all ages will enjoy items that will be unique, off-beat, and useful during the 2011 season. There will be salutes to the 2010 Eastern League champions, the Pirates' Minor League Pitcher of the Year, last season's Major League home run leader, two of the Curve mascots, and one of the most popular actors to never win an Oscar on the freebie schedule.

The giveaways begin opening weekend with 2011 Curve Magnet Schedules presented by Altoona First Savings Bank as part of the Opening Night festivities on Thursday, April 14 and a Replica Eastern League Championship Trophy presented by Holiday Inn Express on Sunday, April 17.

"We're really looking forward to the Replica Championship Trophy giveaway on our first Sunday of the season," said Curve General Manager Rob Egan. "It will be the perfect wrap-up to our Opening Weekend when we will celebrate our first Eastern League Championship while welcoming our 2011 team to Curve, Pa."

Owens Perm HeadThe top pitcher on the 2010 championship team and two-time Pirates' Minor League Pitcher of the Year, Rudy Owens, will be remembered fondly for his on-field performance and off-field personality with one of the more unique giveaway items the Curve have ever scheduled. The Rudy Owens Perm Hat giveaway is set for Friday, August 5 to commemorate the curly, blonde mane that he sported for much of last season. The perm hat event, presented by Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association, will be one of the ten (10) Freebie Friday giveaways on the schedule.

Five other Freebie Fridays will pay homage to 2010 Major League home run leader and 2005 Curve Most Valuable Player Jose Bautista, new Curve mascot Tenacious C, and rally mascot Al Tuna. The Jose Bautista Silver Slugger Figurine giveaway presented by Peoples Natural Gas will be held on Friday, July 22. Tenacious C Hankies (April 29 presented by Ravine Screen Printing and Embroidery), Growth Charts (May 13), and Banks (June 17 presented by Sanitary Maintenance) will usher in the Curve's new engineer character. Meanwhile, the team's first-ever freebie centered around its rally mascot will occur on Friday, July 8 when the Al Tuna Bobblefeet Figurine is given away, compliments of UniFirst.

Summer Cruise LogoAlso new in 2011 is the Nittany Travel Summer Cruise Series, which combines a free cruise giveaway with the Curve's tribute to one of the greatest actors of all time never to win an Oscar: Tom Cruise.

The four giveaway nights will be themed with some of Cruise's most electrifying and Oscar-worthy work as an actor and will begin on Thursday, June 16 vs. New Britain with an Aviator Sunglasses Giveaway presented by Bud Light. The aviators, of course, will commemorate Cruise's role as the fly-by-the-seat-of-his-pants pilot Pete "Maverick" Mitchell in the 1986 blockbuster "Top Gun".

The three other Cruise nights will be the Thursday, July 7 Tighty Whitey Giveaway to recall his role as high school entrepreneur Joel Goodsen in "Risky Business", the Thursday, July 21 Shot Glass Giveaway (presented by Yuengling Lager) to celebrate his role as the bottle-slinging bartender Brian Flanagan in "Cocktail", and a Thursday, August 4 Foam Football Giveaway to remember Cruise's portrayal of Ampipe High cornerback Stefen Djordjevic in the 1983 film, "All the Right Moves".

"We came up with the idea for the Summer Cruise series while pulling tarp last season, about as far away from Hollywood or the Caribbean as you can get," said Egan. "We think it will be a lot of fun for our adult fans to remember some of Mr. Cruise's earlier films with some different giveaways - plus have a chance to win a cruise."

The Nittany Travel Summer Cruise Series will work as follows:

There will be four giveaway nights associated with the Nittany Travel Summer Cruise series throughout the 2011 season and each night will have a giveaway item to the first 500 fans 21 & up. To be entered into the drawing on September 4th to win the cruise, fans must collect all four Nittany Travel Summer Cruise Series giveaway items and bring them to the game vs. Richmond. At that time, all of the fans with the four giveaway items in hand will be entered into a drawing to win one cruise for four people.
