Vizcaino benefits from Biscuits' errors

Arodys Vizcaino received a lot of help from the Montgomery Biscuits en route to his first Double-A win.

Montgomery committed a franchise-record eight errors and Vizcaino struck out seven over six innings Saturday as the Mississippi Braves flattened the Biscuits, 11-3.

Montgomery entered the game ranked second in the Southern League in fielding percentage, having committed 42 miscues in 55 games. But third baseman Henry Wrigley made three errors, including two on the same play, and catcher Nevin Ashley made two throwing errors.

The other miscues belonged to second baseman Shawn O'Malley, shortstop Tim Beckham and reliever Jim Paduch as the Biscuits came within one error of matching the Southern League record. The previous team mark was six, set on July 31, 2008 against Huntsville.

The biggest beneficiary was Vizcaino (1-1), who allowed three runs on five hits and two walks in his second start for the M-Braves.

Promoted from Class A Advanced Lynchburg on May 29, the 20-year-old right-hander took the loss in his Southern League debut on Monday after yielding five runs on four hits, including three homers, over seven innings against Mobile. He was 2-2 with a 2.45 ERA in nine Carolina League starts.

Rowdy Hardy gave up two hits and struck out two over two scoreless frames and Eliecer Cardenas finished up for Mississippi, which ended a five-game losing streak.

Donell Linares hit a three-run homer and Tyler Pastornicky went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored for the Braves.

Former third-round pick Nick Barnese (1-2) was charged with five runs -- four earned -- on five hits and three walks over four innings for Montgomery.
