AutoZone Park to kick off Elvis Week 2012

Official 35th Anniversary Launch Event to be the largest in history as Memphis welcomes fans from around the world to the King's hometown

MEMPHIS, TN - The Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau, The Greater Memphis Chamber, Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc., Anheuser-Busch, Hard Rock Cafe; and AutoZone Park have announced today the largest Elvis Week kick-off event in history.

The 35th Annual Elvis Week to be held in Memphis Friday, August 10 to Sunday, August 19, 2012, is expected to draw more than 50,000 Elvis fans from around the world to his hometown.

The kickoff event for this ten-day commemoration of the life and legacy of the King of Rock 'n' Roll will be held August 10, 2012 with a blowout block party in downtown Memphis and an Elvis-themed Memphis Redbirds baseball game against the Tacoma Rainiers. At 5:00 p.m. Elvis fans and local residents will gather at AutoZone Park for a celebration that features live bands, fun giveaways, displays from many local attractions, classic cars and a special appearance by the Budweiser Clydesdales.

The first 5,000 fans to enter the park will receive a commemorative, limited-edition Elvis bobblehead. In addition to the baseball game, which features the Memphis Redbirds vs. the Tacoma Rainiers, spectators will enjoy Elvis music and video throughout the game.

Once the game is over, the fun is just beginning with special entertainment in the clubs on Beale Street.

The Hard Rock Café Memphis on Beale Street will be the venue for performances by some of the best tribute artists in the world as they compete for the final spot in The Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest hosted by Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc.
