Dayton, Ohio-Quad Cities' David Medina scored from first base on a misplayed infield pop-up to break a 4-4 tie with two outs in the top of the 13th inning as the River Bandits defeated the Dayton Dragons 5-4 on Thursday night. Quad Cities overcame a 4-0 deficit to send the game to extra innings and outlasted the Dragons to win the first game of a three-game series.

Medina singled with two outs and the bases empty in the top of the 13th. Garrett Wittels then hit a high pop up to the left of home plate. Dragons pitcher Dan Jensen dropped the ball and it bounced into foul territory as Medina rounded second and headed for third. Dragons catcher Danny Vicioso picked up the baseball and threw toward third base, but the ball got over the head of Brandon Dailey into left field as Medina came in to score the tie-breaking run.

The Dragons got a two-out single from Kyle Waldrop in the bottom of the 13th but Dailey grounded out to end the game.

The Dragons built an early 4-0 lead against Quad Cities starting pitcher Todd McInnis. They scored three runs in the second, keyed by a pair of run-scoring triples by Waldrop and Theo Bowe, and an RBI single by Junior Arias. Ryan Wright drove in a run in the fifth with a two-out single to bring in Yovan Gonzalez and make it 4-0.

Quad Cities scored one run in the sixth and then got a two-run home run from Roberto Reyes in the seventh to make it 4-3. They tied the game in the eighth on a two-out RBI single by Jeremy Patton.

The Dragons had a runner at second with no one out in the bottom of the 10th and a man at second with one out in the 11th but could not get the big hit. They finished with 12 hits. Wright was 3 for 4. Waldrop, Arias, and Juan Silva each had two hits.
