Dragons Collect 15 Hits, Win 12-7

Dayton, Ohio-Brandon Dailey belted a three-run home run and the Dayton Dragons collected a season-high 15 hits as they defeated the Quad Cities River Bandits 12-7 on Friday. They game included a rain delay of one hour, 49 minutes prior to the fifth inning. The two teams have split the first two games of the series.

Jefry Sierra, Steve Selsky, and Nick O'Shea each collected three hits for the Dragons, while Dailey and Junior Arias each had two. Dailey and O'Shea each drove in three runs. The 12 runs also represented a season-high for the Dragons, topping their previous high of nine.

Quad Cities jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, scoring one in the first and adding one in the second on a solo home run by Roberto Reyes.

The Dragons answered with one run in the bottom of the second when Danny Vicioso doubled and eventually scored on Kyle Waldrop's sacrifice fly to make it 2-1. Then in the Dayton third, Dailey drilled a three-run to left field after a double by O'Shea and a bunt single by Sierra to make it 4-2.

The Dragons exploded for five runs in the fourth inning, keyed by O'Shea's two-run single and a run-scoring triple by Sierra to make it 9-2.

After the rain delay, the Dragons built the lead to 10-2 in the fifth on O'Shea's RBI single. Quad Cities scored three runs in the top of the seventh to make it 10-5, but the Dragons came back with two in the bottom of the inning, getting run-scoring doubles from Selsky and Arias, to take a 12-5 lead. Quad Cities closed out the scoring with two in the eighth.

Dragons starting pitcher Carlos Gonzalez worked the first four innings, allowing four hits and two runs with two walks and a strikeout. He left the game after the rain delay and was not involved in the decision. James Allen (1-0) was credited with the win. Allen worked three innings, allowing three hits and three runs (two earned) with one walk and two strikeouts. Jimmy Moran worked the final two innings, allowing two earned runs.

The Dragons host the River Bandits in the rubber match of the three-game series on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. Justice French, the Dragons top winner (2-1, 3.38) will start for Dayton against Quad Cities' Sam Gaviglio (1-0, 2.53). The game will be televised on WHIO Digital Channel 7.2 (channel 23 on Time Warner basic cable; channel 372 on Time Warner's digital tier). WHIO TV Sports Director Mike Hartsock will join Dragons broadcaster Tom Nichols on the telecast. The Dragons play at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday in the start of a new series with Cedar Rapids at Fifth Third Field.
