Lookouts Top Blue Wahoos, 5-1

July 11, 2012
Lookouts starting pitcher Matt Magill pitched a gem of a game, throwing six shutout innings, to lead Chattanooga to a 5-1 victory over Pensacola in Wednesday night action at AT&T Field.

After a quick three innings with no scoring, the Lookouts broke the ice in the fourth frame with two runs. Kyle Russell began the rally with a one-out double down the right-field line. After a Luis Nunez ground out, Jake Lemmerman drew a walk from Pensacola starting pitcher Tim Crabbe (3-6). Griff Erickson then ripped a Crabbe fastball in the right-center field gap to bring home both runners.

The Lookouts added two more runs in the fifth to augment their lead. Rafael Ynoa led off with a single and advanced to second on a subsequent Nick Buss bunt single. Blake Smith then reached first to load the bases on catcher interference, after glancing the glove of catcher Tucker Barnhart on a swing. Pensacola continued to shoot themselves in the foot with costly mistakes, as Crabbe threw a wild pitch to advance all runners. J.T. Wise accounted for the first out of the inning with a ground out, but Crabbe, once again, loaded the bases by intentionally walking Kyle Russell. Nunez then hit a grounder to a ranging Billy Hamilton at shortstop, who could not get Smith at third on the play, plating another run in the process. Crabbe settled down to record the final two outs of the inning without any further damage, but the Lookouts now held a 4-0 lead.

Nunez nailed a solo shot in the seventh to give the Lookouts an insurance run.

The Blue Wahoos finally entered the scoreboard in the eighth inning, when Hamilton hit an RBI triple to score David Vidal.

Steven Ames recorded the final five Pensacola outs of the game to preserve the 5-1 win for the Lookouts.

Magill (7-4) earned the win for the Lookouts, throwing six innings and yielding just three hits, while striking out seven and not issuing a single walk.

The Chattanooga Lookouts and Pensacola Blue Wahoos will continue their five-game series at 7:15 P.M., tomorrow. Tickets for this game or any other Lookouts home game can be purchased at the Lookouts Box Office at AT&T Field, online at www.lookouts.com, or by calling (423) 267-4849.
