Where Are They Now: Eli Whiteside

November 1, 2012
The Baysox have completed their 20th season, and during that time, hundreds of players have come through Bowie. Some have stopped in for just a few weeks and others have been here for years before moving on with their careers. During the offseason, check back to baysox.com to find out where some of those players are now.

Catcher Eli Whiteside played for the Baysox from 2002-04 and again during the 2007 season. During those four seasons, Whiteside played in 240 games and batted .244 while hitting 25 home runs and driving in 124 runs.

Whiteside was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 6th round of the 2001 Amateur Draft and spent seven years in the organization before becoming a free agent at the end of the 2007 season. He made his Major League debut on July 5, 2005 and played in nine games for the Orioles that season.

After leaving the Orioles, Whiteside was signed by the Minnesota Twins and played in eight games with Triple-A Rochester before being released. On May 5, 2008, Whiteside was signed by the San Francisco Giants.

Whiteside made his debut with the Giants on May 24, 2009 and on July 10, 2009 he caught a no-hitter thrown by Jonathan Sanchez. In 2010, Whiteside earned a World Series ring as a member of the World Champion San Francisco Giants. The Mississippi native played in 82 games for the Giants in 2011 and batted .197 with eight doubles and 17 RBI. He spent the majority of the 2012 season with Triple-A Fresno, batting .224 in 60 games but he also played in 12 games for the Giants. Update: Whiteside was placed on waivers by the Giants and claimed by the Yankess on 11/5/12.
